Halloweens of the Past

Every year I say I will start making my Halloween costume in the beginning of October so I have enough time to finish it. Of course, as tradition typically goes, I wait until a few days before to get started.

::FLASHBACK::

In high school, I made a Link costume from The Legend Of Zelda. Back then Cosplay wasn’t even a word or world I knew existed. Using felt, and the sewing skills of my mother, I designed a costume that I thought wasn’t bad looking at all for a first timer. I’ll post a pic when I get one I have at home.

3 years ago I dressed up as QuailMan from the cartoon Doug.

2 years ago I dressed up as KidVid from the Burger King Kids Club.

Last year I originally wanted to do Nightwing, but wasn’t comfortable enough to wear the suit needed for that, so I instead decided to dress up as Jack Frost. I think the best part of this whole costume was the staff that I made from scratch!

Researching more and more, I got more creative with my costumes and found new materials I could use to amp up their designs. This years costume…… I’ll dedicate my next post to that as I’m adding the finishing touches to it now.

Marvel Cinematic Universe – Phase 3

IMG_1832.PNG

Sitting at my desk at work, my co worker calls me to ask me if its true that Norman Reedus died and if they cancelled The Walking Dead. My initial thought was WHAT? Then I thought, they can’t kill him yet. She asked me to check online, which I was already doing, only to get sidetracked by the beginning of Marvel’s press announcement.

I start geeking out and having what Tom Lenk calls Nerdgasms as I’m following the news as its being told at El Capitan Theater in Hollywood. My eyes widening hoping for more than just movie release dates and titles. I don’t remember when it happened, but my co worker was talking to me and I hung up on her. This is more important!

Now THAT’S more like it!

Then the casting announcement of Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa and a concept art photo for good measure:

I remember running to my boss who is a total geek herself to tell her what I just read. We geeked out, a normal thing for us, before we continued our work. I have my issues with some of the things announced, specifically the use of Captain Marvel as opposed to the better named Ms. Marvel, but more on that in the future. I am glad it’s Carol Danvers though…. Phew!

With a slate going all the way until 2019, and fan favorites now confirmed to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we are definitely in for a wild ride, and I for one cannot wait!

OktoberFest

Earlier this week plans arose to head to Oktoberfest at the Alpine Village. Having never been and always wanting to check it out, I bought my ticket. I headed out with Gabriel and my beer loving and overall awesome gal friend, Lulu.

Beer after beer after beer continued while singing along and cheering with the crowd. My only complain about the event was their minimal selection of beer. They did have a Pilsener in selection, so I wasn’t too mad. Gabriel bought a chicken dinner, and the chicken was bland. Surprisingly their side dishes had more flavor and were better tasting than the chicken.

More booze was bought and we met up with other friends who arrived later into the night. In the end I enjoyed the event for the $20 admission price. The night ended with Belgium Waffles, and Lulu and I wouldn’t have had it end any other way!

Past, Present and Future

IMG_1489.JPG

Changes happen over time; It’s inevitable. Since my last entry, I’ve gone from Point A to Point Z. I’m not the same person I was when I last posted on the site, which was over a year and a half ago.

Last night I found my journal, I flipped to the last entry, and read it. I actually cringed at the words, my words, that I’d written. It was as if a completely different person with my retained memories was living my sad yet happy life. I’m not going to lie, back then I had issues with my weight, but that was just the tip of the iceberg. I was so unhappy with not only where I was, but who I was as a person. I projected this facade of happiness so people wouldn’t see me at that low and it worked. Some of my closer friends saw and recognized the issue I had with my weight, but I played it off as body issues everyone seems to have and deal with. I thought it was better for them to focus on that than everything else I was going through.

I won’t get into it all now, as I would most likely ramble for what seems like an eternity in this matter, but I’m happy to realize that I now understand and have overcome the issues I was dealing with back then.

My future looks a lot brighter. I plan on still journaling, which is something I want to keep doing, but I also plan on updating a lot more often on here. The more public things on here, and the more personal things for my journal. It’s finally time I get my creative juices flowing and start the projects I’ve always wanted to do. It may be towards the end of 2014, but no need to wait until the new year to start. I’m excited for what’s to come!
