Wallpaper. at the Roxy
Whenever Wallpaper. is in town, Lulu and I make it a point to see them. This began since the first time we saw them perform at the Echo when they opened for The Astro Galaxy Tour. As the Astro Galaxy Tour performed, we went forwent seeing them and went to hang out with Ricky Reed amongst the crowd. We saw him blow up to the producer he is now, working with big list talent and having these records reach the Top 3 in Billboard Hot 100.
Before our trek to the Roxy, we decided to go get some wings at Hot Wings Cafe on Melrose Ave. We didn’t want to pay a lot for parking so we parked near some local small bars in Hollywood and walked a few blocks to the venue. Little did we know it would start drizzling as we were walking uphill.
Wallpaper. did not disappoint during their performance. They went as far as to play jams from their first album when it was just Ricky and Arjun and they used a projector for effects.
Once the show ended we were walking back down to the car when we saw Christopher Mintz-Plasse with his friends. We felt a bit weird to ask for a picture, so we just continued our trek then headed home.
Lana Del Rey
I’ve had the Lana Del Rey album Born To Die since it was released. I listened to it, liked it, but never fully realized how great of an album it was. When she released her Paradise EP, I was just amazed at how astounding it was. I went back and listened to Born To Die again, and it was as if I had just listened to it for the first time. For the past few weeks I have been getting her unreleased tracks and the Lizzy Grant songs she has.
My Lana kick has yet to be fully satisfied. I just can’t get enough of her right now. I have introduced her music to a few friends and the feedback has been positive, which honestly surprised me because its not their typical genre of music.
I want to see her perform live. I’m hoping she tours because I will be there front and center!
My musical taste has broadened beyond anything I could have imagined. Usually I’ve always gave bands or artists outside of my liking a try, but recently I’ve noticed a shift in my musical likings. I’m digging this new shift as I have come to appreciate music in a different way.
Any recommendations you may have of bands or artists you think I should give a listen to, shoot em my way!
GREEN monDAY
So my friend text me yesterday morning saying Green Day Tickets were going on sale in a few hours. I was on it and managed to score a ticket! Excited I text my friend to see if he got his and he didn’t. Damn ticket fly not being punctual with the sale. I knew I should have bought 2 tickets, but I didn’t.
I took off rather late to the show but managed to score prime parking! The line to get inside the venue was long. I met a couple and we began chit chatting and making fun of this young couple in front of me complaining about having to make their daughter breakfast every morning. Some Australian guy was behind us laughing along with us too.
They were taping the show, so I assume it will be included in the cd/dvd they may possibly release. It took a while but when I finally got in I forwent going to the pit and went straight to the bar. I ordered myself a drink and went to the side of the stage and who comes up next to me? It’s Jake, the Australian guy. I was introduced to his Irish friend and we just hung out and sang Green Day songs for a few hours!
The show Itself was just amazing! They tarted off with a few old school classics and dove into songs from their upcoming LP. They played for a good hour and 30 minutes. I was tired at this point. The Insanity workout I had done earlier caught up with me. Overall I give the night an A+, although I do wish my friends would have scored some tickets too. =(
